Typical products

The typical product par execellence in honey that has ensured Zafferana to recive the title of “Honey Town”. Beekeeping in the most flourishing activity which has made the town one of the greatest producers in national field whit the 15% and a concetration of about 800 small enterprises of the sector. The typical Zafferana specialitie vary from the orang blossom honey to those of orange, chestnutm eucalyptus, lemon, thousand-flowers and Indian fig. qualitywines produced in Zafferana vineyards have a very important place,many of them with AOC brand, that can also be bought from private retailers. Pears, cherries, peaches and apple (available in the varied qualities of “cola”, “cola ice-cream”, “delicious white and red”) are not also missing, deriving from biological growing, often sold by the producers on their house threshold. Valuable are the mushrooms picked up in Zafferana woods, available from November to May which dominate the local markets and restaurant and trattoria menu where they become a basa for the praparation of delicious dishes. Remarkable is the confectionery that rates the “skier”: a milk biscuit covered with dark chocolate, today also available with milk chocolate and pistachio, invented in Zafferana to satisfy the skiers energy needs directed towards the ski slopes of Etna; almond, hazelnut and pistachio pastes; ricotta cheese cassata and tea leaves: fragrant, very thin, leaf-shaped almond biscuits, today also available with pistachio, prepared following a secret and exclusive recipe.
Rotisserie typical speciality is the “Siclian Pizza”: a fried half-moon shaped calzone, whose dough is prepared with a secret recipe, filled with tuma cheese, anchovies and pepper, today available with edible boletus mushrooms, ham, olives, onions and tomato.
